Golden Ratio Face Calculator

The golden ratio is 1.618. Symmi takes the five facial proportions the classical rule actually uses, measures each from 478 landmarks, and shows how close every one sits to φ. Then it tells you what that does and does not mean.

How it is measured

Five ratios. Each one compared with 1.618.

The tool measures five pairs of distances the Marquardt-style analyses use, divides each pair, and reports how far the result is from φ as a percentage. The overall match is the mean of the five. A face with all five near φ is rare; most attractive faces match on two or three.

Face length ÷ face width
Estimated hairline to chin over cheekbone-to-cheekbone width. The headline ratio.
Mouth width ÷ nose width
Mouth corner to corner over nostril to nostril.
Eye span ÷ mouth width
Outer eye corner to outer eye corner over mouth width.
Nose base–chin ÷ lower lip–chin
Two lower-face distances that share the chin point.
Eye line–chin ÷ nose base–chin
Pupil line to chin over nose base to chin. The proportion that places the eyes in the face.

FAQ

Is the golden ratio real for faces?+

As a description of a few proportions viewers tend to like, partly. As a rule that predicts attractiveness, no: peer-reviewed tests find it explains a small share of ratings. Treat it as a fun benchmark with a measured number behind it, not a verdict.

What is a good golden ratio score?+

Matches over 90 percent on a single ratio are common. An overall mean above 90 percent is unusual. Below 80 percent usually means one ratio is far out, and the table shows which.

Can I change any of these?+

Width readings shift with puffiness and jaw tone; the nose-to-mouth and eye ratios are largely bone. The Symmi app grades each of its 19 readings as bone or trainable so you do not spend time on the fixed ones.

Is the photo stored?+

No. It never leaves your browser.
